Review: "The Story Cure" by Dinty W. Moore

Hi guys! I'm here to review the book "The Story Cure", by Dinty W. Moore. So, let's get started!

First off, I thought that the set up was creative, linking writing a story to a doctors checkup. It helped me at least to more easily understand what the author was getting at. I thought that the tips were great as well, so I'll share a few.

1. Wandering,Rambling story: "The book with no heart is often just a series of events happening to a character who has no clear desire or fear, but sometimes the problem is the exact opposite: your character wants and fears too much." (Moore 21).

"You need to make a list of the various, perhaps clearly connected or seemingly unrelated, fears or desires of your main character." (Moore 22).

2. You just can't find the opening sentence?

"Don't know how your book should open? You just don't know yet, so keep writing." (Moore 50).

3. "You are stalled on structure, dithering away for days and days." (Moore 134).

"Think of two or three possible ways to structure your book and choose one ... then start writing." (Moore 135).

The book also gave examples along with their explanations, so you could see it in real books. It seemed helpful to see it used in other books.

I gave this book a 4.5/5 stars, as even though it gave great advice, it also was sort of similar to other books like that I've read in the past.

I hope that this proves helpful to someone, and hope you can read this book for more tips if you need it :) Have fun reading/ writing!
